I’m delighted to announce that Apollo playwright/director Nancy Keystone will be offering a masterclass on Saturday, January 24th from noon to 6:30 pm.

Divining/Directing/Performing workshop with Nancy Keystone

A Workshop for all Theater Artists

The invisible. How to render it visible? That is one way of describing the heady work of full-scale collaboration. This full-throttle workshop will explore strategies for creating theater work through ensemble creation. Participants will engage in improvisatory exercises that Nancy has developed for transforming source material into a theatrical event, and will work with expressing ideas organically through physicality and use of text. You can count on envelope-pushing, boundary-breaking and genre-busting.

Instructor: A Los Angeles-based theater director/playwright/designer and visual artist, Nancy Keystone is a recipient of TCG’s prestigious Alan Schneider Director Award. In partnership with Portland Center Stage, she was awarded the National Theatre Artist Residency grant from TCG/Pew Charitable Trusts. Currently, with Critical Mass Performance Group, she is rehearsing for the world premiere of Apollo at PCS, about the relationship of German rocket scientists and the United States Space Program. Past Critical Mass productions include The Akhmatova Project, a movement-based performance piece inspired by the life and writing of Russian poet Anna Akhmatova. The Los Angeles Times praised The Akhmatova Project as one of the “Ten Best Productions” in Los Angeles for 2000, and the production garnered four L.A. Weekly nominations including Production of the Year. Nancy is also the recipient of fellowships from the Drama League of New York and the California Community Foundation. Currently she is a member of the visiting faculty at UCLA and Cal State Los Angeles.

Workshop date: Saturday, January 24, noon to 6:30pm, including one half-hour break.
