This comes from the blog of Fin Kennedy (the author of How to Disappear Completely and Never be Found)

[Apollo] represents the very best of its country and culture; fiercely intelligent, morally attuned, unflinchingly questioning and motivated by a quiet rage at its identity having been hijacked for so long.

Saw Apollo with a friend and was amazed ! How timely, interesting and what a great evening. The complexity of the material necessitated the length of the play, not a problem for me. Several days later saw a show on History Channel about the recruitment of German scientist to this country. It's always interesting to see our own involvement in important issues; we often point our fingers at others and forget to look at ourselves.

I have seen several plays, dance performances, and have routinely visited art museums in different cities. I have to say that while I did appreciate many of the performance art aspects of this production I felt as if I had tried to see the whole Smithsonian in one afternoon! It was too long and unfortunately lost power because it was difficult to remember what I had just seen and absorbed an hour or two earlier. Such a shame because this play has promise if it was seriously edited. I also did not appreciate the reference to Robert Rauschenburg in the PCS promotion of this production. That reference was grossly overstated. Instead of feeling energized at the end of the play, I felt fatigued and disappointed.

Just came home from a "matinee" that ended with dinner - I agree with everyone who says that this play is WAY TOO LONG!! There is a lot of good stuff in there, but (to me) it was not worth sitting through 3 1/2+ hours to get to it! Cut it by half, do away with most of the "Greek Chorus" (we were sitting in the back of the first level and missed a lot of dialogue, as did many of our neighbor!) and keep it on topic (the whole Civil Rights movement is worthy of its own play - it doesn't need to be woven into this one!)

My wife and I ended up poles apart. She thought it was terrific, I thought it was awful.

I like the fact that PCS is willing to take risks, and not liking a play won't deter me from continuing becuase you learn from both the good and bad in life.

The beginning of the second act with "the boxes" was inspired.
