{Jeremy Martin}
Department: Facilities, Box Office, Production
Position: Operations Assistant, Concierge, Box Office Associate, Sound Board Operator
Hometown: Burley, Idaho
What do you love and/or miss about your hometown? I love being able to say that I am a Burley Idahoan. It works best when I have a beard and flannel shirt on. I miss the country and my grandparents.
When you were young what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be Ronald Reagan and a fighter jet pilot.
Favorite part of your job: Playing the 24 hour Grateful Dead station on Sirius radio when I’m concierge. I also like changing the setting on the LED lights of the balcony to mix things up. But seriously, the co-workers and building are great, seriously great. And the shows and performers are also great, seriously great.
Hobbies? Costume parties, karaoke, feats of strength, pwning noobs, making a fool of myself in public, dinner parties, keggers! I also play the electric and upright bass and have my own recording studio.
Pet? I have a 3 year old cattle dog named Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. I call him Dragon for short. I found him on the side of a highway when he was less than a month old in Northern Idaho. He’s an ornery little beast full of personality (he must take after his old man). I love the guy, just writing this about him makes me miss him.
What was your first job? I loaded clay discs on a device that would fling them into the air out of a cement bunker and rich people would shoot at them and sometimes the bunker too (with shotguns) I was 14. Smoked my first cigarette in one of those bunkers too.
What was the last book you read? Beneath the Underdog by Charles Mingus
Movie? The American Astronaut by Cory McAbee
Play? Twelfth Night at PCS!
What is something most people don’t know about you? I sometimes perform standup comedy at local open mics without letting anyone know.
What sets PCS apart from other places you have worked? It’s a place where I can be my odd/eccentric self and it’s accepted without an odd look. Everyone also likes to have a fun and people have a sense of humor about things. The people make this place great.
Who is one of your biggest inspirations and why? I have a lot of inspirations, especially in music, Frank Zappa, Brian Eno, John Zorn, but most recently it has been a non-musician, R. Buckminster Fuller. I was reading and researching a lot about him before the next season announcement, so it’s cool to see that he is on the mind of the collective consciousness. He did so much in his life, starting at a young age too, and that inspires and reminds me to unlock my potential and become a powerful individual so that I might be an inspiration.
What is something you are absolutely passionate about? I’m very much into technology, I embrace it’s cold and growing grip on our lives. I want to become its master and wield its power with authority. In the same breath, I love the natural primal instinctual essence of life. I ultimately want to sow the earth and live simply and sustainable, but also have a personal satellite in orbit, and talk to people with my mind. I believe after we reach darkness we will be reborn into a new universe.
