What do you love and/or miss about your hometown? The ocean, especially La Jolla Cove.
When you were young what did you want to be when you grew up? An archaeologist.
However, I sunburn with ridiculous ease, and I have an aversion to dirt, heat, bugs, and outdoor “facilities” or lack thereof. So it was pretty clear early on that I’d have to find something else. Archaeology still fascinates me, though.
Favorite part of your job: Getting to see great plays. My lovely co-workers, of course. And when Scott Coopwood calls me “sweetie.”
Hobbies? Reading, cross-stitch, gardening, volunteering for the Oregon Humane Society
Pet? Ashton, my 17-year-old charcoal grey feline, who now has a health maintenance team (acupunturist, herbalist) bigger than mine. No, he is not named after that Kutcher kid; he’s named for Sir Frederick Ashton, the British choreographer, and he’s a secret Royalist (but, then, aren’t all cats?). He’s my Hunka Hunka Burnin’ Cat.
What was your first job? Working as a secretary one summer at the Naval Air Rework Facility in San Diego – a weird close encounter with the military/industrial complex.
What was the last book you read? Nonfiction: The World Without Us, by Alan Weisman – captivating style, thought-provoking, both scary and reassuring. Fiction: Edward P. Jones’ The Known World – outstanding; a unique story (about freed Virginia slaves who also owned slaves) told in a style so matter-of-fact and so lacking in melodrama that it conveys the horror of the slave system with far more impact than any outraged polemic would.
Movie? The Savages, with Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman, two of my favorite actors.
Play? Twelfth Night, right here at PCS!
Who is one of your biggest inspirations and why? Molly Ivins. She was about fighting the good fight, and having a good time doing it. So sad she’s gone, and folks like Karl Rove are still here.
What’s somethings folks at PCS don’t know about you?
That I was a Rainbow Girl. No. Seriously.
What is something you are absolutely passionate about? Humane treatment of animals, and the Bill of Rights. Don’t even get me started!
