Acting Shakespeare with Jim Iorio
Learn the basics of how to take Shakespeare's text from the page to the stage. This class will offer a text-based, physical approach to understanding and acting Shakespeare. Areas of focus include using the body and voice as a communicative tool; developing a character and making choices from clues in the text; analyzing and scoring verse; and ultimately, giving a confident and accomplished performance of selections from Shakespeare. This class is well suited for those who are new to classical acting, those who have struggled with it in the past, as well as experienced actors who want to further hone their skills.
Course dates: Mondays, March 5 - 26, from 6 - 8 p.m.
Tuition: $120 - includes a ticket to Shakespeare's Amazing Cymbeline
Instructor: Jim Iorio is a professional actor/director who was recently on Broadway in A View from the Bridge with Scarlett Johansson & Liev Schreiber. He has appeared in over 40 Equity productions, playing leading roles Off-Broadway and at major regional theatres nationwide. Television/film work includes: Law & Order, Queens Supreme, The Street, Leverage, Going the Distance and Petty Crimes. He holds an M.F.A. in Acting from NYU and studied at the Moscow Art Theatre. At PCS he appeared as Benedick in Much Ado and as Halliwell in O Lovely Glowworm. He recently appeared in Collapse at Third Rail Rep.
