Food Carts, Reggie Watts and Live Wire OH MY!

Posted by cynpdx | 10 August 2010 | Comments (0)

We're stoked that Live Wire, Portland's quirky, fun live variety radio show, will be returning to the Armory August 21st! And this time around they've got Menomena (did you see them on Late Night with Jimmy Falon?), T:BA hit Reggie Watts, 3 Leg Torso and the Foodcarts Portland blogger.  Plus they've JUST ADDED the filmmakers behind Queen of the Sun: What are the Bees Telling Us?... a fascinating documentary look into colony collapse disorder. It's like Portland Concentrated.

Here's all the basic details:

When: Saturday, August 21st

Time: 8:00 pm (Doors open at 7:00 pm)

Getting Your Tickets:

Buy online through www.livewireradio.org or by phone by calling 503.427.8201
General Admission tickets only available at the Gerding Theater Box Office during their office hours (Daily noon-5:30pm) and are cash only.
Reserved tickets must be bought online or by calling the Live Wire office.

And here's all the fun stuff you want to know before you go:

The brilliant Live Wire lineup will both surprise and delight you with  breathtaking performances. This particular show will be a clinic in sensory exploration.

The Special Guests:

REGGIE WATTS, a Brooklyn-based comedian and musician, will be on hand to offer up his infamous brand of stand-up: part improvisation, part musical numbers, all genius. Reggie focuses on stream-of-consciousness, shifting-persona comedic performances. Reggie is a fixture on television and in live theater, and he will blow audiences away with his jaw-dropping, ear-popping act.

DAYNA HANSON, a fixture at PICA'S TBA Festival, will showcase her experimental stage art. Dayna is an acclaimed filmmaker and a 2006 Guggenheim Fellow for Choreography and she, along with her performance troupe, will debut snippets from Gloria's Cause, her latest project, a documentary-infused rock and roll musical. She'll perform the musical in its entirety at this year's TBA Festival, but those who attend this show will catch a never-before-seen sneak peak.

Reason enough to go? Wait, there's more.

Indie-rock darlings MENOMENA are slated as musical guests, and they'll be performing tracks from their newest album, Mines, which has already taken Portland (and the music scene) by storm. A three-piece from Portland, Menomena share singing and instrumentation duties while crafting beautiful, haunting indie-pop.

Another musical juggernaut, 3 LEG TORSO, will play songs from their newest, Animals and Cannibals. 3 Leg Torso, which started as street band, has emerged as an energetic, complicated musical quintet: they wow with chamber music, tango, and world music--to name a few of their specialties.

JUST ADDED! The filmakers behind QUEEN OF THE SUN, a documentary film that takes a profound, alternative look at the bee crisis. Juxtaposing the catastrophic disappearance of bees with the mysterious world of the beehive, Queen of the Sun weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the heart-felt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world

Still need more?

Live Wire will take a look into the Food Cart Phenomenon with guests,  famed food blogger Brett Burmeister (foodcartsportland.com) and Gregg Abbot from Whiffies Fried Pies.

Get your tickets fast. This event usually sells out quickly! See you at the show.
