Up and Running

Finally started sharing the show with audience this past Sunday evening. My favorite comment overheard was from a high school kid: "Wow! I've never seen 'Oklahoma!' It's great. (pause) I can't imagine it with white people."

It's been fascinating to listen as some audiences hum along with the music, and then as others gasp in surprise at plot points they had either forgotten or had never actually seen before.

Joel (our choreographer) and Ann Wrightson (the lighting designer) reworked much of the look of the ballet over the past two days to try and clarify the critical points of the story.

When the actors really invest in the circumstances of the story, you begin to see why the material has become such a classic. It's brilliantly constructed - musically, comically and dramatically.

Britt,
Thank you so much for your wonderful response to “Oklahoma!” We’re so happy with the response the show is receiving from our audiences, and will make sure that Chris sees your note. And agree with you—this cast is a delight to have in the building!

Chris Coleman: bravo! I just saw your production tonight and it literally blew me away. I don’t even know where to start. The singing, the dancing, the humor, the love of the production and creative energy of the cast… Muah! Magnificent! I mean I have not seen enough productions like this and after seeing the creative genius of such a classic show I am baffled why this is not done more often. I am a little embarrassed to say you opened a whole new world of our history that has basically been unmentioned. What a shame because it is INCREDIBLE! You and your cast and crew could not have been more amazing. It is obvious your cast is nothing short of intensely passionate about the production and are having an incredible time. Very playful and fun, cannot express how hard I laughed tonight! I hope you get this production on Broadway because it needs to be seen by as many people possible!! Cannot stress that enough. Also I spoke to a couple people from the cast after the show and they could not be more cool to a fan. And I’m a huge one now. So thank you for putting on such a beautiful and fun production. it really took me away into a whole new world, culture, history. Just had to say Thank you. And get on Broadway. Have someone set up a Facebook fan page or a blog or something.
Don’t stop directing! (ps not meant for blog comment but did not find other source)
Thanks Dennis! We’re so glad you’ll be joining us. Hope you enjoy the show!
I can hardly wait (but I have to, our tickets are for Oct. 30).
Marty Hughley’s story in Oregonian was terrific and the pictures posted here are killer. I have always wanted to see Marisha Wallace again, too. Woot! Woot! Woot!
