Tempest Storm Large

Just had a nice gentleman who was buying Cabaret tickets when he glanced up at Storm’s CD and asked, “Is Storm Large related to Tempest Storm?”

“Who is Tempest Storm?”, I ask.

“You don’t know Tempest Storm? The stripper from the 50’s?”

“Ah. Well perhaps Storm Large has found inspiration from Tempest.”

“We’ll see … you know, Tempest Storm could contra-rotate.”, he winks.

“Contra-rotate?”, I ask.

Then he demonstrates using his fingers how Tempest could twirl her breasts simultaneously in opposite directions. Whoa Nellie! If Storm Large could do that, I think we’d be charging more for tickets.

Uh, how come when I type in http://www.pcs.org that this comes up first? How is another entertainer relevant from some 50 odd years ago who has some similarity in name? Same could be said of any Annie, Maria or Wanda for all it matters. Oh right, it has to do with stripping and the sexiness of the play (got my own whatever on that part, the story is the main thing). Please don’t put Storm out there are being another titty twirler. She may be but it is HER to say in public, thank you very much.
I hope the website issues get ironed out soon as I hope to get info on the Portland Center Stage first and foremost. And for what it’s worth, I’m seeing Cabaret for my 3rd time, and will be seeing UnderPants as well.

lighten up, StinkBug. if there’s one thing we’ve learned about Ms. Large it’s that she doesn’t need anybody sticking up for her. She’s one cool cat and she’s got herself covered. As to why you found this on our homepage, we’re going after a little thing called “transparency.” Basically it means we want to share with you and everybody else out there how crazy it can be working in a theater…give you an inside scoop on the things that happen here, day by day. The cool thing is that the front page image will rotate out regularly, so you won’t have to look at Tempest and imagine the twirly thing for long if you don’t want to. Thanks for the comment…the other thing we’re going for is exactly this sort of dialog.

As with any job working with the public, our patrons say the darndest things. Sometimes they are amusing (like this one) but other times they are insightful, shocking and sometimes even heart breaking. This is just the first of many stories from our patrons we intend to share on our website. Sometimes they will be fluffy stories, other times they may answer a common question many people have but never wanted to ask. It is exciting to have a place for sharing our work and experiences in the theater with others. And I can’t wait to share some stories about the Underpants - they’re endless!

I actually taught one of the Kitkat girls that trick … contra rotating , anyone with boobies , and a little rhythm can do it . The trick is to have your arms at your sides and post straight up and down for one direction , then to get them to spin the other way , simply put your arms straight up . It’s a great , ice breaking trick for first dates … or to get free doughnuts .
