Though the heat outside is frightful, inside it’s so delightful. How come? It’s hard to feel hot when you’re humming “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
That’s right, here at PCS we’re already at work revamping our home-grown adaptation of Dickens’ holiday classic, A Christmas Carol. Although the production was one of last season’s runaway hits, we’re not resting on our laurels. In fact we hope to introduce a few new elements into the show every year we offer it, just to keep you guessing.
So what’s new for this winter? You may recall that among our version’s innovations was a unique approach to the Ghost of Christmas Past. Instead of a single ghost ushering Scrooge through his life, we had a succession of ghosts, from small to full-grown, each representing a stage of the old miser’s development. In the course of our run, Heather Nelson Robertson, who played one of those ghosts, had a terrific idea. What if we took the conceit even further, so that the ghosts themselves entered the scenes of the past and actively moved them forward? We believe this will add a whole new dynamism to the play.
Another new development for this winter involves the play’s most mysterious character, the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come. Originally we conceived of this spirit as an enormous black void, scary and inscrutable. This year we will startle you with a fully articulated colossus who will interact directly with Scrooge.
And there is more. But “more than this I cannot say,” as Jacob Marley intones early in the play. Just expect several surprise in this year’s edition of the fable, especially as the story approaches its climax .
Tickets for A Christmas Carol are already available through our special early bird ticket offer. Last year’s production sold out- to get your best choice of dates and seats, now is the time to order.
