As we immerse ourselves in the world of A Christmas Carol here at Portland Center Stage, we can’t help but be inspired by the spirit of giving that is the central message of this holiday classic. It may seem a bit sentimental, but when I hear the songs and the scenes being rehearsed in the next room, I can’t help but try to be less like Scrooge and more like Fred.

When Scrooge awakes on Christmas morning, transformed from his ghostly visitors, the first thing he does is bring food to a hungry family, the Cratchits. Inspired by this action, Portland Center Stage will be hosting a food drive for the Oregon Food Bank throughout the run of A Christmas Carol.

Aren’t you inspired? Well, in case your inspiration needs a little jump-start, we’re offering 1 free ticket* to A Christmas Carol when you bring in 3 non-perishable food items for the Oregon Food Bank.

*1 Adult ticket per household. No refunds on previously purchased tickets. Not valid with any other offer. Subject to availability.

Hi,
Sounds like a great idea. How do I go about actually coordinating the purchase of tickets with this 3 cans / one ticket free offer? Do you provide a coupon to use in booking tickets on line? Do you bring in three cans and book all your tickets at this time?

This offer is only available in person. Bring your cans down to the theater and give them to the box office to secure your complimentary ticket. See you at A Christmas Carol!

You’ll need to make your reservation at the box office with cans in hand. Can be for that night’s performance or a later date.

While I appreciate your creative and generous thinking with this offer, it has had an unintended side effect for me. As a season ticket holder, I wanted to take family and friends to see a Christmas Carol and purchased a total of 7 tickets, all at full price. I’m a little disappointed that I can’t take advantage of this offer. It wasn’t available when I purchased my tickets and doesn’t allow for the refunds on previously purchased tickets. At the risk of sounding rather Scrooge-like, this offer makes me feel less valued as a repeat, season ticket holder than the new walk in off the street ticket purchaser. Next year, I think I’ll think twice before I purchase my tickets.

I think you should inform people of ticket specials before you put the tickets on sale. I bought early and paid full price for tickets. Recently I have seen your offers including this one, and one offering four tickets for the price of two, and another for discounted days. I think this is not fair to people who bought their tickets early and paid full price.

It is- bring your 3 canned food items down to receive a complimentary ticket to the show. They particularly need high protein items: Tuna fish, peanut butter, canned chicken.
