Community Artists Labs
JAW, A Playwrights Festival, proudly announces three free Community Artists Lab led by participants in our 10th anniversary festivities. Admission is FREE, but in order to maintain a high level of quality, attendance for each Lab is very limited and is determined by random lottery. To put your name in the hat, email literary@pcs.org by July 13; results will be announced on the 14th.

Disconnecting the Left Brain with Constance Congdon Thursday, July 17, 6:00 pm–9:00 pm
In this mini-boot camp for playwrights, the legendary dramatist and teacher (JAW 2008 and Profile Theatre Project’s 1999-2000 season) leads this inter/active session on jump-starting new work and immediately reshaping it, utilizing tricks that bypass the internal critic. No laptops allowed! All writing will happen on site by applying pen to paper.
Characters Have Bodies with Carlos Murillo July 19, 10:00 am–1:00 pm
The author of Mimesophobia (JAW 2004) and Dark Play (Humana 2007) leads a playwriting workshop in which participants will create new characters or develop existing ones through a series of writing and solo improvisation exercises. These exercises are geared to finding characters’ distinct voices through imagining their physical/sensory experience of the world.
Prepare for Impact with Jason Neulander July 20, 10:00 am–noon
In this Lab designed for both directors and actors, Jason Neulander (founder and original artistic director of Salvage Vanguard Theater) will work with us on activating “negative” space and bringing an entire stage, house, and theater to life with the energy that generates.

July 20, 12:30 – 1:30 pm in the Rehearsal Hall
