I think you may be mistaken with your first question about Nixon driving Pat on dates. He did, indeed drive her from Whittier to LA on Fridays and pick her up on Sunday for a ride back home. She was certainly seeing old boyfriends from USC during this time. But where’s the documentation that Nixon drove on an actual date?

Good question- there are a couple of biographers who allude to this specific element of their story- that when she refused to date him he would drive her down to L.A. They made it clear that he was driving her there specifically to go on dates with other men. Frank Langella also references this fact coming up in his research of the president in preparation for the Broadway and film productions. He describes it as “driving her on dates” though I haven’t uncovered specific quotes saying that the men she dated were in the car with Nixon, exactly. A matter of interpretation.
