PCS Ordains a STEAL of a New Deal for You

We the people of Portland Center Stage,
in order to form a more artistic union,
establish theatre,
insure domestic entertainment,
provide for the common man,
promote the general welfare,
and secure the blessings of tickets to ourselves and our patrons,
do ordain and establish this

NEW DEAL
for the citizens of Portland Oregon:

For one day only, all remaining seats in the 2008/2009 season will be on sale for $25.

From midnight to midnight on April 15, Portlanders can put their stimulus package tax refunds directly to work on three shovel ready productions that are guaranteed to provide additional, er, stimuli of their own: Frost/Nixon, Grey Gardens, and Storm Large’s Crazy Enough.

UPDATE: Due to site crashing yesterday, the sale has been extended through April 16.

Tickets can be purchased by phone at 503.445.3700 or online by using the special code “DEAL.” The $25 price will be good for all performance days and times, and there is no limit on the number of tickets per patron that are available through this one time only offer.

The DEAL is up at midnight.

We subscribed (again this year) at regular price. Now you are offering a special ticket price deal. That leaves us out and I don’t think it’s appropriate. Maybe next year I’ll not subscribe and just wait for a “special deal”.

Thank you for your comment. I do appreciate the concern. We think long and hard about making special offers, and try to make sure we’re respecting the subscribers who make their season commitments to us. With the subscriber discounts we offer (which vary by night of the week, anywhere from 10 – 30%), most subscribers have purchased their tickets for close to this discount price. Additionally, subscribers receive priority seating, performance time and day preference, free exchanges, discounts with partner restaurants, and of course discounts on additional tickets purchased throughout the season. So for the vast majority of subscribers these benefits account to more than any single ticket discount offers we may offer from time to time during the season.

I hope you’ll continue with us as a season tickets holder, for all the above benefits. We still think it’s the best value for anyone who plans to see more than a show or two at PCS in the course of a season.

I, too, aprpeciate the concerns of big supporters and subscribers. For those of us, however, for whom a season, or even a regular priced ticket for one show, can be woefully out-of-reach, I thank you for offering a creative and fun opportunity like this. We love many of your shows and for financial reasons can usually make them a very-rare treat.
For Subscribers, my thought is that this is a very unusual thing for PCS to do, and you could wait and wait for a “deal” but it certainly wouldn’t encompass the season and might never come.

The secret is to select your date, then look for the box beneath the show description text that says “promo code.” Put the word DEAL in there before you continue on your order process and you should be golden.

I think this is a wonderful way to get people to buy tickets and sell out all the shows! Maybe it is the first time for some; maybe it is just a “good deal” for others. However it gets them there to support PCS, it makes me very happy. I want everyone to know what a wonderful theater company PCS is and have them become even more well known in Portland. This is my fourth year as a season ticket holder. I forwarded my email to as many people as I could. I want all of them to get a chance to see Storm Large perform and the other two upcoming plays too. Keep the great plays coming Chris!

First of all, thank you for offering specials like this. I do happen to be a season subscriber, but I am still deeply appreciative of these deals because it helps enable more of my friends and family to join me for the shows that they are interested in. Unfortunately, I’ve tried taking advantage of this offer 4 times today (on 3 separate computers) and have not been able to get through to the tickets portion of the website. I’m afraid that availability will be way too limited for me now, but I’m going to keep trying. I’m glad it was so successful for you and now I’m just crossing my fingers…

Have been getting busy signal on phone for last 2 hours and every time I try to by on line the page for BUY tickets comes up link not available. Seems like a shame that you promote this and then do not have the resources or technology to handle the requests. I’m very disappointed that you got my hopes up and then find them dashed by your inability to handle the responses. You’ve done more harm then good for me.

I too think this is a great deal to get some of us that are not regulars in the door for some culture. However, I can imagine the response has been huge. I’ve been trying to get tickets online for several hours now tonight and the site doesn’t seem to be working properly. I’m grateful for the chance to get the tickets, but haven’t been successful in actually getting onto the tickets page to pick a performance to go to yet. Needless to say, I’m a little frustrated. Good luck to others though.

I’m so sad and disappointed. I drove all the way back to work at 1130 at night to log on and buy tickets. I tried for over 20 minutes and never was able to even get the tickets page to load. What happened? I know it wasn’t my internet connection because I’m writing this comment using it right now.

I tried from 9-12pm last night to buy tickets and the ticket purchase page was completely unresponsive, it would just time out. I’m thinking this was due to the volume of people trying to purchase? I would have bought sooner if I could.

Sellers may and do change the price they charge for their goods and services. This happens ALL THE TIME. Part of the incentive for buying early is ensuring that you get it (whatever it is) while it’s still available.
Why is it that when it’s performing arts tickets, some customers whine about being cheated?
The claim makes no sense whatsoever. You agreed to buy at a given price. It took the offer of a different price to reach agreement with a different buyer. Period.
