PCS Teens pre-professional summer theater training
Next summer, let Portland Center Stage introduce you to the confidence-building fun of learning performance skills in a stimulating, supportive environment. Perhaps you are a rising star who could use an entrée into the professional performing arts community through the city’s flagship theater. Perhaps you are a novice performer who is looking for the chance to hone your natural abilities. Our teaching professionals, drawn from Portland’s theater elite, eagerly await the chance to share their experience with you.
Session I: Advanced Acting Intensive and Audition Seminar
For students entering grades 11 & 12.
Dates: June 14 – June 25, Summer 2010
Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm
Tuition: $625
A new Intensive for Juniors & Seniors with a focus on advanced character building, scene study, and relationship work. In addition, students will leave the intensive with the ultimate audition tools in their back pocket; two contrasting contemporary monologues, one Shakespeare monologue, and cold reading skills.
Session II: Musical Theater Intensive
For students entering grades 9-12.
Dates: July 26 – August 6, Summer, 2010
Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm
Tuition: $650
Experience the excitement and fun involved in creating musical theater. This two-week full day Musical Theater intensive is for all teens interested in becoming “triple threats”. Working with professional musical theater performers, participants will explore all aspects of musical theater, including dance styles, vocal performance, and acting for the musical stage. The two week intensive will culminate with a presentation for friends and family.
Session III: Introduction to Professional Theater
For students entering grades 9-12.
Dates: August 9 – August 20, Summer 2010
Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm
Tuition: $625
A two-week, full-day comprehensive theater training program for all teens desiring an intensive theater experience. Under the guidance of professional actors, directors, and designers, participants will explore all aspects of the professional contemporary stage including monologues, scene study, directing, playwriting, stage combat and stage craft. While this session is suitable for students new to theater, it is also an excellent building block for the ambitious Teen wishing to develop stronger ties to the professional community. The Intensive culminates with a presentation for friends and family.

Ted deChatelet
Intro. to Professional Theater
Stage Combat
Ted is a professional actor who has worked extensively in New York and in Regional Theatres around the country and is the Co-Artistic Director of Salem Repertory Theatre. He received his MFA in Acting at the University of Illinois and a BA in Theatre from Wake Forest University. Ted has studied with Wynn Handman in NYC and with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. He currently teaches acting, voice, movement, and stage combat for the professional actor training program at Western Oregon University. Ted is a Certified Teacher of Stage Combat with the Society of American Fight Directors and co-owner of Revenge Arts Stage Combat.

Elizabeth Klinger
Introduction to Professional Theater
Movement
Elizabeth is a director, teacher, and performer who comes to PCS via Philadelphia. As a director, she has staged original, traditional, and adapted works and directed the Youth Ensemble at People’s Light and Theatre Company. Elizabeth recently closed her fall semester teaching Movement for Actors I and II, and Children’s Theatre at Cumberland County College in New Jersey. She holds an M.F.A. in Ensemble Based Physical Theatre from The Dell’Arte International School, and has performed with the Dell’Arte Company across the Pacific Northwest.

Michelle Kopper
Musical Theater Intensive
Vocal Technique & Acting
Michelle began her theatrical career in Portland in 1987 at The New Rose Theatre, Portland Repertory Theatre and Artists Repertory Theatre before moving to New York City in 1989 where she taught and performed for more than 16 years. In 1997 she joined the faculties of Elynn Diamond Studio at Carnegie Hall and Rasa Yoga Studio before creating her own studio on Theatre Row in 2003. She returned to Portland and began teaching her unique Singing Performance classes in 2005 and has appeared most recently with Reader’s Theatre Repertory & Insight Out Theatre Collective. Michelle is also a singer/songwriter and has performed with her band at a variety of NYC venues. She is a member of the Screen Actor’s Guild, Actors Equity Association and serves on the Board of Directors for the Portland Area Theatre Alliance. www.michellekopper.com

Val Landrum
Introduction to Professional Theater
Acting
Val is an Equity actor originating from Chicago where she worked with several first class regional theaters, including Steppenwolf and The Goodman. Since moving here she has been in productions for Portland Center Stage ( including three JAW West festivals ), Third Rail Repertory Theatre, Profile Theatre, CoHo, Triangle Productions, and Artist Repertory Theatre, where she was most recently seen as Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire. She began her teaching career at Purdue University (FW) and then transitioned into the inner city of Chicago, working with troubled youth. Upon moving to Portland she has taught for Northwest Children’s Theatre, Portland Parks and Recreation, Oregon Children’s Theatre and several immersion programs with the Portland Public School system.

Reese Marshburn
Musical Theater Intensive
Accompanist
Reece graduated in 2002 from Western Washington University with a degree in Jazz Studies. For three years he lead his own Quartet and played seven nights a week for thirty-two weeks out of the year backing up acts as diverse as country to broadway. After landing in Portland in 2005, he has played all over town in a variety of capacities. Reece is musical director for the Tony Starlight Show, Jim Beatty Jazz Band, and the Pop Rep Ensemble. He has worked with PCS in West Side Story, Cabaret, Grey Gardens and A Chistmas Carol.

Chris Murray
Intro. to Professional Theater
Acting
Chris Murray is a Portland Actor and Teacher. A member of Actor’s Equity, Chris has performed in many plays, movies and television commercials, from London to Portland, and has been a member of several touring improvisational comedy programs. Chris has received Shakespearian training from the Globe Theatre, and the Royal Shakespeare Company in London. Chris has taught for Oregon Children’s Theatre, Northwest Children’s Theatre, PCS Greenhouse’s summer program in 2007, and has taught and directed high school students in a number of plays and workshops. Chris holds a BFA from Linfield College.

Cecily Overman
Intro. to Professional Theater
Playwriting/Directing
Cecily Overman has been very active in Portland theatre for the last ten years, both teaching and performing. She has been seen on many various stages in town including: Oregon Children’s Theatre, Artist Repertory Theatre, Northwest Children’s Theater, Portland Center Stage, and Profile Theatre. Cecily has taught in the community for Northwest Childrens Theatre, ART, and is actively involved with the PlayWrite Inc. program which helps high school students find their voice through writing plays. She received Bachelor’s degrees in both Psychology and Theatre from Whitman College.
Amy Palomino
Musical Theater Intensive
Dance & Choreography
Amy Palomino moved to Portland shortly after closing the Broadway revival of 42nd Street. Prior to that, she played “Lorraine” in the National Tour of 42nd Street and was assistant dance captain. She graduated with honors from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and has been a performer and choreographer in numerous regional New York musicals. Amy most recently appeared as “Anybodys” in Portland Center Stage’s West Side Story and a “Kit Kat Girl” in Cabaret. She served as Assistant Choreographer and Dance Captain for both productions.

Chrisse Roccaro
Musical Theater Intensive
Voice & Acting
Chrisse’s award winning career as a singer, character actress and radio, television and film actor has spanned more than 30 years in Portland and New York. In 2003 Chrisse was presented with a Drammy Award for Outstanding Achievement by an Actress in a Supporting Role. She is a noted cabaret artist, interpreting such composers as Gershwin, Sondheim, Coward, Porter and Weill in shows at New York’s ‘Don’t Tell Mama’ Cabaret Club and in Portland. Chrisse is the President of The Portland Civic Theatre Guild; AFTRA National Board Representative for Portland and a member of Actor’s Equity and the Screen Actor’s Guild.

Kelsey Tyler
Camp Director
Kelsey has worked as an Actor, Director, Teacher and Arts Administrator for the past 10 years. He is currently the Education Director at Portland Center Stage where he has also been seen on stage in Pride & Prejudice and The Thugs. Kelsey has taught and developed educational theater programs for Idaho Theater for Youth, Michigan State University and now PCS. He holds a Masters in Theater History and Dramatic Literature from Michigan State University.

Jessica Wallenfels
Introduction to Professional Theater
Movement
Jessica Wallenfels is a choreographer and teacher who most recently provided movement for “Sometimes a Great Notion” at Portland Center Stage. Other projects include “Romeo and Juliet” at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and working on Portland Center Stage’s “Pride and Prejudice.” Her original movement theater has been presented in New York City and Los Angeles as well as Portland. Wallenfels holds a BFA from California Institute of the Arts and attended Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater.
Matthew B. Zrebski
Introduction to Professional Theater
Directing, Playwriting and Stage Management
Matt is the playwriting instructor for Portland Centers Stage’s GreenHouse School of Theatre as well as a longtime teacher for the Visions and Voices Playwriting program for high school students. He has also taught for Literary Arts, Portland Actors Conservatory, Willamette University and Pacific University. A professional director and producer, he has mounted over forty world premieres and has run three theatre companies, leading them to garner numerous awards including “Best Of” citations from the media, Drammy Awards, and honors from the Kennedy Center. Matt holds a BFA from the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University.
Teen Council {FREE}
The Portland Center Stage Teen Council is a group of Portland area Teens who work to further their involvement with the theatre community, create opportunities for advanced theater experiences, and serve as ambassadors to their peers. Activities involve planning meetings, publication of the Act-Teen-Zine, readings/performances at PCS and participation in PCS Education efforts.
Participation and attendance is the only pre-requisite for inclusion on the Teen Council.
