Give Back with these Holiday Drives Serving Local Youth!

Posted by Sarah Mitchell | 14 November 2013

Support local youth during the holiday season with two giving opportunities!

p:ear Giving Tree

p:ear builds positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives. Each year our programs serve almost 900 homeless and transitional young people ages 15 to 24.  We've happily hosted the p:ear Giving Tree in our lobby for the past several seasons.  In fact, last season PCS patrons & staff donated nearly $1000 in materials!

How it Works:

  • Select a pear ornament from our giving tree in the Main Lobby.
  • Purchase the gift noted on the back of the ornament.
  • Return the gift, unwrapped, to p:ear at 338 NW 6th Ave.  Call 503.228.6677 to arrange the drop-off.
  • Consider placing the unwrapped gift in a small backpack.
  • If dropping off at p:ear is inconvenient, bring the gift with you to the theater and PCS staff will make sure it gets delivered.

If you'd like to take care of your p:ear gift before coming to the theater, here are some commonly requested items from p:ear clients: knitting/crochet needles, 35mm black & white film, movie tickets, journals & gel pens, acrylic paint, hair dryer, colored duct tape, needlenose pliers, matching gloves & hat, backpack, Adult Tri-Met passes, AA and AAA batteries, and beeswax.  Gift certificates for: Fred Meyer, Ross,  Payless Shoes, Apple Music, TruValue, Powell's, Art Media, Michael's or Rite-Aid

***The Helping Hands Food & Gift Drive has ended. Thank you for your donations!***

Helping Hands Food & Gift Drive

A collection bin is available in PCS's Main Lobby. The items that are placed in the bin will be distributed to the families of students in the Parkrose school district at our annual Helping Hands Food & Gift Drive, hosted at Shaver Elementary. This is one of the best ways for Portlanders to give what’s needed directly to some of the city’s most needy families.

Suggestions on items to place in the collection bins:

  • Any packaged, nonperishable food or juice (dried, canned, etc.)
  • New, unwrapped toys
  • Books for children and young adults (new or gently-used)
  • New hygiene items/toiletries Gift bags/other gift-wrapping materials
  • New art supplies
  • Coats in good condition
  • New hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves
