Well, one idea is singing the Star Spangled Banner at the Minor League All Stars game at PGE Park in Portland, July 15, 2009.  Lucky for all of us, it’s a quick dash back to the theater for the 7:30 pm curtain of Crazy Enough!

Portland's Annual Theater Achievement Awards

At the annual Drammy Awards, where Portland theater celebrates the past season and acknowledges outstanding achievement, Portland Center Stage had a terrific night. Check out all the winners here, including several awards for How To Disappear Completely and Never Be Found.  But special congratulations to Storm Large and James Beaton, who were honored for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music for Crazy Enough, and for Storm for being singled out for Outstanding Achievement by a Lead Actress in a Musical.

It’s unusual in Portland to be able to see a production after it receives Drammy honors, because the usual performance run is only a few short weeks. But thanks to the extensions on Crazy Enough, you’ll have a chance to see a Drammy-winning show!

And another rare opportunity is coming up in the 2009-10 season. Sharonlee McLean received an award for Outstanding Achievement by a Leading Actress in a Play for The Receptionist, which was produced at CoHo Productions last fall. PCS has announced that we will revive the production (directed by our own Rose Riordan, no slouch in directing multiple Drammy-winning productions) in our 09/10 season in the Ellyn Bye Studio.  So once again, you’ll be able to see a Drammy-winning performance after it has been honored!
