Even though the production has ended its run, I still feel strongly enough about the understudy situation to add this comment. Perhaps, in future, the management will add the fact that an understudy will carry a script in the performance, should it be necessary, at the time the understudy announcement is made. In this way, the audience knows what to expect and has the opportunity to root for the actor, rather than feeling hoodwinked. As an audience member, this has been my experience in similar situations at other theatres.

Friday 6/12 - we attended our first performance at your theatre. (Grey Gardens) We were so excited about attending. Loved the first act but the second act was a brick. Having a key actor with her face in the book (reading line by line) was so distracting. Considering we paid $67 per seat - we were astonished by the poor performance.

Don't think we will be attending another performance anytime soon.

The Gerding Theatre was beautiful though.

We will be at the show Sunday night. I hope there is no understudy. Yikes. Perhaps we should trade for a different date?

I completely understand that it is not the optimum situation to have an understudy who needs to be on book. Unfortunately in this case, circumstances required contracting an understudy at the last minute. The alternative would have been to cancel the evening's performance, and we felt that canceling would have been more of a disappointment to our audience.
