Medicinal Poetry Writing with Niema Lightseed
Poetry is a blend of intuitive listening and refined crafting that taps into the pulse of creation. Expressive writing practice can support us to connect with the core of transformative potential within our experiences.
Through practices to center the mind and connect with the Muse, writing exercises, poetry theory, and editing guidance, attendees will learn a process for tuning into and creatively recording your life experiences. We will use expressive writing as a way to digest and detangle the intensity of this time. Then we will explore the work of refining raw words into art that can broaden our understanding and become nourishment. All levels welcome, you don't need to consider yourself a writer to attend, and both total beginners and experienced poets will receive useful tools.
Whether you are crafting poems to be read and spoken or lyrics to be set to music, this workshop can help you write bars that are meaningful to you, learn to alchemize your experience into medicine, and cultivate a practice through which your writing and/or songcraft can become a healing art. Portland based performer Kimo Camat will be performing a pre-show set to the afternoon’s play filled with songs ranging from Funk, Neo Soul, and a dash of Musical Theatre. Joined by Mak Kastelic on keys and Juliet Terrill on bass, Kimo wants you to come hang for an afternoon of cool drinks and soft tunes downtown in the Pearl.
JAW Play Reading: Good Person (A One-Woman Bouffon Show) By Brett Robinson
Patrica! (A clown, a monster, and definitively good person) drags you down into her own hole of her own making to ask why we are good. Part seminar and part existential crisis. It’s buffoon, it’s funny, it’s dread. This one person show crafted in drag bars and cabaret spaces invites you to question what makes a person good, and if you happen to be one of those so-called "Good People."
