Accessibility at Portland Center Stage

Portland Center Stage is committed to making our performances and facilities accessible to all of our patrons. For every production here at PCS, we are happy to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers, as well as provide professional audio description and sign interpretation. For specific program questions and ticket information, or if you need assistance, please contact the Box Office at 503-445-3700 or email access@pcs.org.

PCS has accessibility services and programs for patrons who have:

Mobility Impairments

Patrons with mobility impairments can be accommodated with wheelchair accessible seating in all of our performances spaces.

If you or your guests require a special seating arrangement, please contact the Box Office so we can find you an appropriate seat. The Box Office will make every attempt to seat one companion in an adjacent seat and any additional guests as close as possible. If your theatre companion is not able to assist you in transferring from your wheelchair into a theatre seat, for your safety and for the safety of our staff we do ask that you remain in your wheelchair.

This seating chart indicates the locations in the Main Stage theater that are reserved for our patrons using wheelchairs. Wheelchair seating locations in the Ellyn Bye Studio will be determined by the flexible seating configuration that is used for individual productions.

Fully accessible public restrooms are located on the café side of the lobby, on the main floor of the Armory.

Visual Impairments

Audio Description is the art of talking pictorially, or becoming a "verbal camera lens" to enable audience members who are blind or have low vision to hear descriptions of actions, body language, lights, costumes, scenery and other aspects of the production not conveyed by voices from the stage.

For patrons who are blind or visually impaired, the second Sunday matinee performance of every production is audio described by a team of professionals from CADA (the Committee for Audio Description in the Arts). Receivers can be checked out from Coat Check, located next to the Box Office.

Service animals, such as guide dogs, are permitted inside the Armory to assist PCS patrons. So that we can make sure to provide the best seating options for you and your service animal, please alert the box office if you plan on attending with a service animal.

PCS also offers large print programs for all productions, available at the Box Office or by clicking on the links below:

Hearing Impairments

For those who are deaf or hard of hearing, the third Thursday evening performance of every production is sign interpreted by certified American Sign Language interpreters. If purchasing online, to gain access to seats in the sign-interpreted section, you must enter the code word SIGN in the promotion code box on the “Buy Tickets” section of the website.

Please join us at 6:30 p.m. for Deaf Theatre Chat prior to these interpreted performances! Your theatre ticket gets you entrance into this special no-host social hour with complimentary snacks. Our wonderful interpreting team is anxious to chat with you about this show and you can meet other community members attending the play and hang out until the show starts at 7:30. The full bar and cafe will also be open for purchases during this time.

In addition, Assistive Listening Devices are available for every performance. These devices amplify the actors and enhance the words spoken on stage by separating speech frombackground noise. Devices can be checked out from Coat Check, located next to the Box Office.
