Breakin Portland is a dynamic dance theater work that brings to life the untold stories of Portland’s breakdancers. Blending break- dancing, personal stories, and an unexpecting score, the piece reveals how this urban art form fosters resilience, emotional expression, and community. Rooted in hip hop culture and shaped by lived experience, the work offers audiences an intimate and exhilarating glimpse into a world rarely seen on stage.
Michael Galen is a multi-talented artist known for blending rhythm, physical theater, and global movement styles. He has performed and choreographed with Rejoice! Diaspora Dance Theater, with his work showcased on Comedy Central, IFC’s Portlandia, and TedX Mt. Hood.

A week-long assembling of artists and audiences to create new plays! Artistic teams, including playwrights, directors and actors, come together to rehearse — and a lot of times rewrite! — a play. The final piece of the process happens during the weekend, when we share “music stands readings” with audiences so the playwrights can hear their work, often for the very first time!
