2026–2027 Season, Celebrating 20 Years at The Armory

Portland Center Stage announces its 2026–2027 season: Then. Now. Next. The coming season marks the theater’s 20th year at The Armory in downtown Portland and honors the past, celebrates the present, and invests boldly in the future of Portland Center Stage (PCS) as a cornerstone of the community.

“Seated for 20 years as the gem of the Pearl District, PCS has served generations of people with transformative plays, musicals, classes, and community programs,” says PCS Artistic Director, Marissa Wolf. “With deep gratitude to all who have built this theater and made it a place of connection and belonging, I’m thrilled to launch a new season that honors Portland Center Stage’s legacy and the present moment, while also looking ahead with fortitude and resilience — not just for PCS, but for our entire region.”

With the 20th anniversary in The Armory comes a new chapter for PCS. Building on the momentum of the ongoing $9 million “Save PCS” fundraising campaign, the new appointment of Heather de Michele as Managing Director, and a concerted effort to rebuild and retain audiences post-pandemic, the organization is optimistic about the future.

Wolf adds, “The season lineup is definitely responding to our time, and to the deep need for belonging, laughter, and joy. We’re taking a comedy-forward approach with titles you’ll know and love, along with breathtaking, spine-chilling, and highly theatrical contemporary plays. It’s a season that will nourish you long after the curtain falls.”

Then. Now. Next. encompasses seven productions, including revivals of past audience favorites, co-productions with theaters from across the country, works from well-known playwrights, the return of a wildly popular comedic collaboration, and award-winning plays from powerful emerging writers.

The 2026–2027 season opens with Kate Hamill’s fast-paced, irreverent adaptation of Pride & Prejudice, directed by Marissa Wolf. Next up, the beloved musical Little Shop of Horrors, last produced by PCS in 2016, fills the November/December holiday slot with Chip Miller at the helm. Ins Choi’s play Kim’s Convenience, which inspired the CBC Television sitcom, kicks off 2027 in a co-production with Baltimore’s Everyman Theatre and Indiana Repertory Theatre. A revival of the 2010 hit Hitchcock parody, The 39 Steps, follows in February. Furlough’s Paradise, an intimate 2-hander by a.k. payne (winner of the 2025 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize), opens in the Ellyn Bye Studio in March. Covenant, a haunting new Southern Gothic presented in partnership with Atlanta’s Alliance Theater, fills the Spring slot on the Main Stage. Closing out the season is the uproarious comedy Peter Pan Goes Wrong, which continues the hugely successful co-production collaboration between PCS and Seattle Rep that began with 2025’s The Play That Goes Wrong.

  • Directed by Dámaso Rodríguez
  • A co-production with Seattle Rep

In Peter Pan Goes Wrong, the hilariously accident-prone troupe behind the smash-hit The Play That Goes Wrong attempts their most ambitious production yet: J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. Flying effects misfire, scenery collapses, cast rivalries erupt, and one technical disaster follows another as the company battles its way toward Neverland. Packed with outrageous physical comedy and gleeful theatrical chaos, this crowd-pleasing spectacle proves once again that when the Cornley Drama Society puts on a show, everything that can go wrong absolutely will—making it a perfect night of laughter for audiences of all ages.

“A magical comedy disaster.” — Observer
