Renaissance: Technically invites audiences to climb inside the window of technology as we spin our way into digital storytelling. This project is the first step in an ongoing experiment that strives to blur the edges between the digital world and real life, and investigate the very process of creating and experiencing art. Nine dynamic artists — including poets, musicians, dancers, actors, and visual artists — have come together to devise this virtual theater event. Join us for a multifaceted journey in progress, with a choose-your-own-adventure twist.

Currently living in Portland, OR, Josie is a creator of theater art internationally, who moves in several circles. As a proud member of the LineStorm Playwrights collective, she is the author of Petite Dames, which was nominated for The Kilroys List in 2015 and was recently workshopped at Lewis and Clark’s Ray Warren Symposium on Race and Revolutionary Struggle. Other works include Path of Glory, The Great God of the Dark Storm Cloud, Jordan’s Wisdom, Overdue, Stand by Me, and This is Message Number 13. Her short play, A Wing and a Prayer was commissioned by Portland Center Stage and featured in the nationwide Play At Home project. As an actor and musical theater performer, she's been seen in shows on Portland area stages such as: An Octoroon with Artist's Repertory Theater with which she is a Resident Artist and a member of the Mercury Company, Men on Boats with Theater Vertigo, Into the Woods with Broadway Rose Theatre Company. She is also an international arts envoy who has performed in Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt.
Lava is originally from Okinawa, Japan, and grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she learned and fell in love with Bunraku puppetry, theater, and photography. She graduated with an M.F.A. in acting from California Institute of the Arts and has been creating theater in Portland for more than a decade. She is a proud member of the Stage Directors & Choreographers Society (SDC).
Puerto Rican actor, director, mask-maker and physical theater poet, Robi holds an M.F.A. in ensemble-based physical theatre from Dell'Arte International. He has performed, toured, and led workshops in México, Venezuela, Italy, Argentina, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. For the past three years, Robi has collaborated with numerous theater companies in Portland, including: Milagro Theatre, Profile Theatre, and he recently became a company member of Hand2Mouth Theatre. His work is diverse, created through a fusion of styles and fueled by social justice and change. His passion is to create a physical, dynamic, and poetic theatre that connects with people as sports connects with the fans. Currently, Robi is focusing his efforts to serve and empower the underrepresented Latinx diaspora in Portland to create new works through different multimedia elements.
Michael is a Queer Chicano theater maker. He is the author of the play Gritos y Chismesitos and co-author of Chic and Sassy and Chic and Sassy: The Higher the Hair, the Closer to God. He is a founding member of the all-drag sketch comedy troupe Gender Offenders, performing under the name Chic Ana. Their work is featured in the documentary, History in the Making: A Grassroots Fight for Marriage Equality and in the book, The People's Victory (2017). He performed on many New York stages, including The Duplex Cabaret, Nuyorican Poets Café, D-Lounge at the Daryl Roth Theatre, Beechman Theatre, Cherry Lane Theatre, La Mama, The Culture Project, and PS 122. He recently assistant directed Sweat by Lynn Nottage at Profile Theatre. Michael directed and performed in the theatrical concert Universo and directed the show Voz Alta: Generaciones. At Milagro Theatre, he performed in their production of The Mermaid Hour and stage managed A Xmas Cuento Remix and The Corrido of the San Patricios. He has also stage managed shows including Imago’s productions of La Belle, Savage/Love, and Medea; Crave Theatre’s productions of Crossing and Red; and Hand2Mouth Theatre’s Dream|Logic and Object Karaoke. Michael is currently co-directing the new musical Bad World with Crave Theatre and is also a part of a cross-cultural collaboration between local PDX artists and Egyptian artists to create a new work exploring the meaning of home, to premiere in Cairo in 2021.
Born in Korea and raised in Seattle, singer/composer/violinist-looper Joe “discharges world[s] of emotion” with his lush string loops and eclectic style (Guitar World). Drawing upon his immigrant upbringing, Joe weaves together diverse textures, melodies, and vocals to uplift and empower listeners. He has opened for Yo-Yo Ma, recorded a Tedx Talk, and been featured on NPR. joekye.com
Kailey was recently seen wearing pink as Lydia Bennet in Portland Center Stage’s production of Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley. Other local credits include Into the Woods and Ordinary Days at Broadway Rose Theatre Company; The Wolves at Portland Playhouse; Sense and Sensibility at Clackamas Repertory Theatre; Urinetown and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee with Anonymous Theatre Company. She has previously appeared in Teenage Dick, An Octoroon, and The Importance of Being Earnest at Artists Repertory Theatre, and she hopes to rejoin them in a post-COVID-19 era for their world premiere of Anthony Hudson's Looking for Tiger Lily.
Andrea is elated to be creating with some of her favorite collaborators at Portland Center Stage during these weird Covid times. She is grateful for the creative exploration and mental grounding that being creative provides. Her favorite credits include: Redwood at Portland Center Stage; The Wolves at Portland Playhouse; JUMP, a co-production with Confrontation Theatre and Milagro Theatre; Pen/Man/Ship at Portland Playhouse; and Everybody at Artists Repertory Theatre, where she is also a resident artist.
Born and raised in Taiwan, Barbie discovered her passion for acting in 2003 as an exchange student in Eugene, Oregon. After earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon, she received her Master of Fine Arts degree in acting from Southern Methodist University in 2014. She is a resident artist and instructor at Artists Repertory Theatre and was featured in A Doll’s House, Part 2, Everybody, and Magellanica. Her other credits include #25 in The Wolves (Portland Playhouse), Cobweb in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Anonymous Theatre Company), Mika Endo in The Mermaid Hour (Teatro Milagro), Katherina Serafima Gleb in Slavs! (Southern Methodist University), Kattrin in Mother Courage (Oregon Contemporary Theatre), Puck in Shakespeare in Hollywood (Very Little Theatre), Cordelia in King Lear (Lane Community College), and she was a founding ensemble member of Bootstrap Theater Company in Truckee, California. Barbie is a teaching artist with Hand2Mouth, and a barista at Tōv, Portland’s only double-decker coffee bus.
An actor-poet-playwright from Portland, Ken's notable credits include 1984 (Artists Rep); Renaissance: Technically and Mojada, A Medea in Los Angeles (Portland Center Stage); The Journal of Ben Uchida (Oregon Children’s Theatre); Chitra, the Girl Prince (Northwest Children’s Theater); and You For Me For You (Portland Playhouse). In 2019, he released his first spoken word album, Quiver (Lightship Press), and performed his autobiographical, poetic, solo play The Art of Fly Swatting at the Pan Asian Repertory Theatre, Off-Broadway. Before joining Portland Center Stage, Chip held the role of artistic associate/resident director at Kansas City Repertory Theatre for seven years, where their directing credits included School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play, Welcome to Fear City, Sex with Strangers, and A Raisin in the Sun. Beyond KCRep stages, directing credits include Becoming Martin by Kevin Willmott (world premiere, The Coterie Theatre), dwb: driving while black (Lawrence Arts Center), and 4:48 Psychosis (The Buffalo Room). Chip has developed work with playwrights including Kevin Willmott, Kara Lee Corthron, Brittany K. Allen, Catherine Trieschmann, Darren Canady, Andrew Rosendorf, Michelle T. Johnson, and Michael Finke. They have developed work at The William Inge Theater Festival, NYU Steinhardt’s New Plays for Young Audiences, Orlando Shakes’ Playfest, Midwest Dramatists Center, Kansas City Repertory Theatre’s OriginKC: New Works Festival, and Portland Center Stage’s JAW Festival. Chip has a B.F.A. from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
Kristen Mun was born and raised on the island of Oahu and has worked as a fight choreographer, stage manager, and teacher in the Portland theater community for the past eight years. She graduated with a B.F.A. from Southern Oregon University and has worked professionally with Portland Center Stage, Artists Repertory Theatre, Third Rail Repertory Theatre, Profile Theatre, Defunkt Theatre, and many more. She has been recognized for her fight choreography four times by the Portland Drammy's and is a proud AEA stage manager.
