A few months following the killing of an unarmed Black teenager, Michael Brown, who was fatally shot by Darren Wilson, a white police officer on August 9, 2014, Dael Orlandersmith traveled to Missouri and conducted interviews with dozens of people still grappling with the aftermath of the shooting and yearning for change. These intimate conversations are the basis of Orlandersmith’s play “Until The Flood,” eight characters embodying a community struggling to come to terms with the personal damage caused by these complex events.

“ALL ARTS Talks: Until The flood” brings together Dael Orlandersmith and a panel of her peers to discuss art’s purpose in understanding and processing traumatic race-related events and issues of structural racism; how Ferguson responded to the killing of Michael Brown and how that is reflected in “Until The Flood”; and Orlandersmith’s experience of performing the piece around the country for over four years in the face of continuing police violence.

This event is presented in partnership with ACT Theatre, Center Theatre Group, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Goodman Theatre, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Portland Center Stage, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, and Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.
